Assignment one in relation to the Assessment criteria points:
1 Demonstration of technical and visual skills – Materials, techniques, observational skills, visual awareness, design and compositional skills. (40%)
Technical skills displayed include the use of digital camera and associated software along with the IT skills in maintaining a Learning Blog to assist in the work on the Assignment.
Visual skills displayed include the seeking out over time and repeated visits to the same city street images that were both relevant to the aim of the Assignment and visually/aesthetically interesting
2 Quality of outcome – Content, application of knowledge, presentation of work in a coherent manner, discernment, conceptualisation of thoughts, communication of ideas. (20%)
The outcome reflects my consideration of the balance in documentary photography between the ‘documentary’ and the ‘aesthetic’. This learning was reflected in my Course Work as recorded in my learning Blog. This Blog also recorded and communicated my work and progress on the Assignment.
3 Demonstration of creativity – Imagination, experimentation, invention. (20%)
Creativity was displayed in the choice of subject matter photographed, the editing of the accumulated photographs to a coherent set of seven for each category. Experimentation was in the attempt to add a visually intense or ‘exotic’ element to the ‘mix’ of images by photographing at night and in the rain.
4 Context – Reflection, research, critical thinking. (20%)
Each visit to the street to photograph was followed by a Reflection on my work as recorded in my Learning Blog. In these Reflections I also critically considered my research of other relevant photographers and their practices.
