Assignment three in relation to the Assessment criteria points:

1 Demonstration of technical and visual skills – Materials, techniques, observational skills, visual awareness, design and compositional skills. (40%)

Technical skills displayed include the use of digital camera and associated software along with use of IT skills in pursuit of research resources.

 Visual skills displayed include the seeking of ideas for self-portraiture, and in particular the use of a mirror(s).

 2 Quality of outcome – Content, application of knowledge, presentation of work in a coherent manner, discernment, conceptualisation of thoughts, communication of ideas. (20%)

The outcome reflects my consideration of the aims of the Assignment and their expression in a visual format. This expression was helped by the prior completion of three Exercises in the associated three Projects: Project 1 (‘Autobiographical self-portraiture’), Project 2 (‘Masquerades’) and Project 3 (‘Self-absented portraiture’). These latter Exercises and others Course Work was recorded in my learning Blog. This Blog also recorded and communicated my work and progress on the Assignment.

3 Demonstration of creativity – Imagination, experimentation, invention. (20%)

 Creativity was displayed in the imaginative choice of the format for the self-portrait. Experimentation/invention was in the attempt to achieve a portrait using several distorting mirrors and a macro lens.

4 Context – Reflection, research, critical thinking. (20%)

 I did much research prior to taking the portrait as reported in my Learning Blog. In these blog entries I attempted to critically consider how my self-portrait reflected contemporary thought on and practice of photographic self-portraiture.
